Goldilocks in Alabama

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra are bringing our orchestral twist on Roald Dahl's Goldilocks and the Three Bears to Samford University's Wright Center on February 23rd 2017. They are dubbing it a Gloriumptious Jubilee in celebration of the Centenary of Roald Dahl. Goldilocks will be accompanied by other orchestral marvels that have been inspired by storytellers.

This concert is pitched at 3rd to 6th Graders. Accompanying teacher resource guides will be available beginning August 2016.

Jack and the Beanstalk

The Canadian puppet-masters at Dandi Productions continue to add their humorous sparkle to the catalogue of Roald Dahl orchestral works.  Most recently they performed Georgs Pelecis’s adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk (featuring a 60-foot beanstalk) with both the Victoria Symphony and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

The Minpins

The Finnish National Opera will present five performances of a semi-staged production of The Minpins in May this year. These family friendly performances are at the centre of FNO’s Sibelius 150 celebrations.

The Minpins is scored for orchestra, solo violin, children’s choir and narrator and was created with enthusiastic support from the Sibelius and Dahl Estates. It is based on Dahl’s last story, adapted to some of Sibelius’ most enchanting and magnificent orchestral music including his incidental music from The Tempest and the Third and Fifth Symphonies. It also features a complete performance of his tone poem, Tapiola.

Cinderella

Another of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, Cinderella recently received its Russian premiere in Vladimir Tarnopolski’s adaptation at the Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg under the baton of Maestro Ivan Stolbov. Cinderella is a 30 minute musical fairytale scored principally for young players and singers with the support of a band of talented professional musicians.
